よそごと【よそ事】

sb's [a stranger's] affair; a matter of no concern 《to one》.

●よそ事のように 〔無関心に〕 indifferently; unconcernedly; nonchalantly

・彼はそれをよそ事のように思っているらしい. He seems to think it's [as if it were] none of his concern [business]. | It seems that he thinks (that) it doesn't concern him.

●酸性雨の問題はよそ事じゃなかった. It turned out that acid rain wasn't somebody else's problem.

・よそ事とは思えない. I feel as if it were my own affair.

・今回の事故はよそ事ながらいつわが身に起こるかもしれない. The accident this time was somebody else's problem, but who knows when it might not happen to us.
